Apply

The Peter Sowerby Foundation actively solicits applications from charities, community groups and registered healthcare providers for projects that meet our trustees’ priorities. This means that we do not accept unsolicited applications for grants.

However, if you have an idea for a project that is closely aligned with the Foundation’s aims and priorities you can get in touch with us through our contact page. Please submit a brief synopsis of your project, including a summary budget and proposed timeline for us to consider. We cannot respond to all the ideas we are sent, but we do read all proposals and get in touch with those we feel could be a good fit.

Our funds

The Foundation awards grants from two funds: the Good Causes fund and the Health Breakthrough Fund.

We announce Open Calls for our Health Breakthrough Fund on our website. There is no fixed timing for these, but we anticipate that they will happen at least once a year. If you would like to know when the next Open Call is announced, please register your interest.

Good causes fund

The projects we support through our Good Causes fund are typically in the areas of healthcare, social care, community, the environment and conservation, education and the arts. The size of grants awarded range from small grants of a few thousand pounds to significant multi-year grants of over £100,000.

Funding from the Peter Sowerby Foundation enabled us to take our show, The Garden, into care homes in Yorkshire. This multi-sensory theatre performance is designed for people living with dementias, taking them on a journey through the seasons. The show has proven results in improving wellbeing, reducing isolation, and providing moments of connection and joy for residents, as reported by care home staff

Health breakthrough fund

Projects supported by our Health Breakthrough Fund have the potential to deliver innovation and transformation in health and social care. The grants awarded are significant in size and delivered over a number of years.

With one in three patients telling us that it took them over two years to receive a diagnosis of their Inflammatory Bowel Disease and that their GPs needed more awareness and understanding of the disease, The Peter Sowerby Foundation has been integral to our work in striving for early and accurate diagnosis of Crohn’s and Colitis and improved standards of care.
